# A sand quarry surveyed and monitored at regular intervals

Mining. Location: Kapaklı, Tekirdağ, Turkey. Year: 2023.

The Bahçeağıl sand quarry in Kapaklı (Tekirdağ) was not measured once: our partner MapSurvey surveys and monitors it on a recurring basis. The 3D model from one of those campaigns can be viewed on this page.

## What the project needed

An active sand pit changes continuously. The operator needs to know, campaign by campaign, how the face is moving, how much material has left and whether extraction stays within the permitted limits. That turns the survey into a recurring service rather than a one off job.

The MapSurvey record of this job is brief, so this page keeps to what it states and explains the method in general terms.

## How this kind of job is approached

Periodic quarry monitoring is normally done with drone photogrammetry on fixed control points: each flight yields a surface model comparable with the previous one, and the difference between them is the volume extracted or stockpiled in that interval. Keeping the same control points across all campaigns is what makes the comparison reliable.

## What was delivered

The project record does not list the deliverables of each campaign; the 3D model published in the viewer is on record.

- **3D model of the quarry**: State of the pit on the flight date, viewable without travelling to site.

## If you have a similar project in Spain

For recurring control ask from the start for a permanent control network, deliveries always in ETRS89 and the UTM zone of the site, the cloud as LAS or LAZ and a volume report per campaign naming the reference surface. To quote, we need the perimeter as KMZ and the monitoring frequency your extraction plan requires.

## Technical sheet

- Type: Working sand quarry
- Regime: Survey and monitoring at regular intervals
- Model year: 2023
- Executed by: MapSurvey, SensorFlight's technical partner

## A project by our technical partner

This work was carried out by MapSurvey, our technical partner in Turkey, measuring since 2015. In Spain, SensorFlight handles the fieldwork and the client relationship, and MapSurvey processes the data and delivers the models. Samet Bayram Gulyol, GIS expert at MapSurvey, is SensorFlight's technical lead.
