# A neighbourhood mapped as the base for GIS and house numbering

GIS. Location: Uzunköprü, Edirne, Turkey. Year: 2023.

The council of Uzunköprü (Edirne) needed base data for its geographic information system and for numbering houses. Our partner MapSurvey mapped the Aşçıoğlu neighbourhood; the 3D model can be explored on this page.

## What the project needed

A municipal GIS is only as good as its starting data. To assign house numbers and keep a coherent street index, the council needed current mapping of the neighbourhood: blocks, buildings, accesses and streets in one coordinate system, onto which the administrative layers are loaded afterwards.

The MapSurvey record of this job is brief, so this page keeps to what it states and explains the method in general terms.

## How this kind of job is approached

In medium sized towns drone photogrammetry is the usual method: a flight on ground control points produces the orthophoto and the 3D model of the neighbourhood, and buildings and street centrelines are digitised over the orthophoto to feed the GIS. The result is delivered in vector formats the council's software imports directly, so numbering is done on real geometry rather than a sketch.

## What was delivered

The record describes the job as base data for GIS and house numbering; the 3D model published in the viewer is also on record.

- **Neighbourhood mapping as GIS base**: Building and street geometry onto which the municipal layers are loaded.
- **Base data for house numbering**: Support for assigning and checking house numbers on current mapping.
- **3D model**: Visual review of the neighbourhood from the technical office.

## If you have a similar project in Spain

Ask for the mapping in ETRS89 and the UTM zone of your municipality, with buildings and street centrelines as shapefile or GeoPackage ready for your GIS, the drawing as DWG or DXF and the orthophoto as GeoTIFF with its GSD stated. To quote, we need the perimeter of the neighbourhood or municipality as KMZ, the layers the work must feed and the GIS software the council uses.

## Technical sheet

## A project by our technical partner

This work was carried out by MapSurvey, our technical partner in Turkey, measuring since 2015. In Spain, SensorFlight handles the fieldwork and the client relationship, and MapSurvey processes the data and delivers the models. Samet Bayram Gulyol, GIS expert at MapSurvey, is SensorFlight's technical lead.
