What the project needed
A solar plant on a commercial building is designed from the real geometry of the roof and the plot: pitches, installed equipment, parapets and free areas. The brief closed the surveys still missing so the project could move forward.
The MapSurvey record of this job is brief, so this page keeps to what it states and explains the method in general terms.
How this kind of job is approached
On large commercial roofs the usual method is drone photogrammetry with vertical and oblique passes on ground control: the orthophoto and surface model give the plan and pitches, and the 3D model captures the rooftop equipment that constrains module layout. The work is done from the air, with no need to access the roof or interrupt trading.
What was delivered
The two products stated in the project record.
-
3D model of the premises
Roof geometry and equipment for laying out modules and studying shading.
-
Topographic base maps
Plan of plot and building for the design and its permitting.
If you have a similar project in Spain
Ask for the 3D model in a format your team can open (OBJ, FBX or a web viewer), the mapping in ETRS89 and your UTM zone as DWG or DXF, and the orthophoto with its GSD stated. To quote, we need the plot perimeter as KMZ, the approximate roof area and the hours in which flying over the car park is acceptable.
