What the project needed
A photovoltaic project on an existing factory needs to know exactly which roofs there are, with what orientation, pitch and obstacles, and how much of the plot is free. That is the role of the 3D model and base map: the support on which the engineer lays out modules, inverters and cable routes.
The MapSurvey record of this job is brief, so this page keeps to what it states and explains the method in general terms.
How this kind of job is approached
On industrial halls the usual method is drone photogrammetry with vertical and oblique passes: the vertical ones give the orthophoto and the plan, the oblique ones complete facades and roof elements so the 3D model reads well. With ground control points the whole block sits in the project coordinate system and the mapping is drawn over the orthophoto.
What was delivered
The two products stated in the project record.
-
3D model of the factory
Roof geometry and obstacles for laying out modules and studying shading.
-
Topographic base map
Plan of the plot and installations for the design and its permitting.
If you have a similar project in Spain
Ask for the mapping in ETRS89 and your UTM zone, as DWG or DXF, the 3D model in a format your team can open (OBJ, FBX or a web viewer) and the orthophoto with its GSD stated. To quote, we need the plot perimeter as KMZ, the approximate height of the halls and whether the study must include shading from neighbouring structures.
